Students can opt to take two Teaching Specialisation courses in either English or Mathematics and complete one additional Education Elective (18 UOC). Alternatively, students can opt to complete 3 additional Education Electives (18 UOC). Students must complete 192 UOC. This program is available face-to-face or distance (online with some face-to-face, i.e. multimodal). Program Structure

This program is an exit pathway for the Bachelor of Primary (Honours). It is designed to cater for students who do not meet the eligibility criteria for embedded honours.

Students must complete 192 UOC when taken as a standalone program.

The program consists of 24 compulsory courses, including six core education courses (36 UOC), seven discipline courses (42 UOC), nine curriculum and pedagogy courses (54 UOC), two 6 UOC professional experience placements and a 12 UOC internship (24 UOC), and one research course (6 UOC). Students can opt to take two Teaching Specialisation courses in either English or Mathematics and complete one additional Education Elective (18 UOC). Alternatively, students can opt to complete 3 additional Education Electives (18 UOC). In each year of study students complete 48 UOC in a trimester arrangement. All students must also completed two General Education courses.

Students who do not achieve a 75+ WAM at the end of year 2 in the Bachelor of Education (Primary) (Honours) will transfer to the Bachelor of Education (Primary) with the aim of completing the degree with an English or Mathematics Specialisation as per AITSL and NESA designations. They will complete the two additional specialisation courses (12 UOC) in either English or Mathematics. They will be awarded a Bachelor of Education (Primary).

Internship, Placement and Exchange Opportunities

83 days of Professional Experience in schools of which 20 days represent an internship.

Compulsory Training Component

Compulsory 83 days of work integrated learning in secondary schools and other educational settings, delivered across three professional experience courses (EDST2002, EDST6760 and EDST6765).

 

Progression Requirements

Bachelor of Education (Primary)

Students in the Bachelor of Education (Primary) (Honours) who do not achieve a 75+ WAM at the end of year 3 will exit through Bachelor of Education (Primary).
