Overview

As a pre-service teacher, this course provides you with wide knowledge of mathematics content and mathematical applications. Special emphasis is put on your confidence, enthusiasm and finding meaning to learn, apply and teach mathematics. The course introduces you to the key mathematical concepts in the Australian curriculum, focusing on a few key understandings including reinforcing concepts considered earlier in the program (proportional reasoning, uncertainty and variation, and generalisation). You will also learn how the foundational mathematics skills can be scaffolded to move learners forward from early stages of learning towards increasingly sophisticated ideas. During the course you will become familiar with literature and learn to reflectively develop as a teaching professional.
