As a pre-service teacher, this course provides you with knowledge, confidence and interest to understand and use mathematical problem solving in your teaching of mathematics and to build the problem solving capacities of your students. The course introduces you to three types of mathematical problems: 1) abstract riddles that have historically entertained people and assisted the development of the thinking skills of humankind, 2) modelling problems requiring the application of mathematical theories into real life situations, and 3) interdisciplinary challenges people are facing in the future that require out of the box thinking. You will consolidate your foundational mathematics skills and become confident users of mathematical ideas. During the course you will become familiar with the intertwined development of mathematics and humankind.
