Chronic disease prevention Health promotionExercise prescriptionStrength and conditioning Healthy ageing Nutrition  The Master of Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology employs a hands-on, problem-based learning model of physiotherapy education to prepare you for your future career as a healthcare professional.   This degree has a strong focus on interprofessional education, evidence-based and reflective practice, ethical behaviour, and the development of high-level clinical reasoning and professional communication skills. The program includes up to 500 hours of professional practice and clinical placements for Exercise Physiology and a wide breadth of clinical placements (totalling up to 1400 hours) for Physiotherapy. This degree will prepare you for a wide range of clinical and non-clinical careers. You will have the skills to navigate the healthcare system and seamlessly adapt to current and future health challenges.   Accreditation  This program has received Qualifying Accreditation from Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA) and has been accredited by the Australian Physiotherapy Council (APC) for 2 years with conditions. UNSW is committed to fulfilling all ongoing accreditation requirements prior to graduation of the first cohort of students.

Double Degree Structure

Students must complete 240 UOC.

NOTE: This is a five-stage, full-time program. Students are strongly encouraged to enrol in a full study load of 48 UOC across each year of the degree. Only in exceptional or unavoidable circumstances will students be allowed to enrol in a reduced study load across any given year. Please contact an Academic Advisor if such circumstances exist.

You are responsible for ensuring you enrol in courses according to your program requirements and advice from your Program Authority. myUNSW enrolment checks that you have met enrolment requirements such as pre-requisites for individual courses but not that you are enrolling in courses that will count towards your program.

Additional Information

Non Standard Progression

Students who do not meet progression requirements will be expected to meet with the Program Authority to develop an individual exit plan. Students who have met the requirements for the Bachelor of Exercise Science (3893) may transfer to this program to exit.

Students are permitted to attempt the same course a maximum of three times. A student who fails the same course for the third time will not be permitted to re-enrol.

Separate Year Research Honours

Students enrolled in the double-degree who have a minimum WAM of 65 at the end of Year 3 may take leave from their studies to undertake a separate one-year research 4530 BHlthSc (Hons) in their chosen discipline. They may then return to complete the Extended Masters. There will be three intakes each year, aligned with the terms. Students must complete an Intention to undertake Honours form by the end of October for commencement in T1 the following year, or March for T2 commencement and July for T3 commencement in the same year.

Award on Completion

This program is offered as a 5-year Bachelor of Exercise Science/ Master of Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology double-degree. A qualification will be awarded on completion of the 5-year program.
