Specialisation Requirements3436 - Music
You must complete one of the majors below.
Home Extended Minors3409 - Arts
The Extended Minors listed below are available ONLY to students in the double degree Arts/Education (Secondary) program 4053 who may choose to take an extended minor (36 UOC) in place of a minor (24 UOC) and Arts and Social Sciences Prescribed Electives (12 UOC).
Home Majors and Minors3409 - Arts
You are required to complete one Home Major and one Minor.
Note: The BA Music Studies majors/minors (MUSCJ1, MUSCJ2, MUSCK1) are not available in programs 3452 Music/Arts and 3474 Music (Honours)/Arts.
Optional External Majors and Minors3409 - Arts
You will need to take extra UOC over 96 UOC to meet the requirements of an external minor that is greater than 24 UOC.
External majors are not available in double degree programs. The only exception is the Geographical Studies major (GEOGK1) in 4053 Arts/Education (Secondary). If you are enrolled in this program and wish to complete Geography as your first teaching specialisation, you can declare a major in Geographical Studies (GEOGK1).
Note: The external minors are not available in 4053 Arts/Education (Secondary).
Level 1 Core Courses3436 - Music
You must complete 36 UOC of Level 1 core courses.
Note: Performance lab course MUSC1707 (12 UOC) is taught as a multi-term course at 4 uoc each term.
- If you are admitted into the advanced entry scheme, you will receive a block credit of up to 36 uoc in Level 1 music courses.
Level 2 Core Courses3436 - Music
You must take 30 UOC of the following courses.
Performance lab course MUSC2703 (12 UOC) is taught as a multi-term course at 4 uoc each term.
Level 3 Core Courses3436 - Music
You must take 12 UOC of the following courses.
*MUSC3706 Performance Lab C (12 UOC) (Music Creative Practice and Music Pedagogy majors only).
Performance lab courses MUSC3705 (12 UOC) & MUSC3706 are taught as a multi-term courses at 4 uoc each term.
Level 4 Core Courses3436 - Music
You must take 36 UOC of the following courses.
*MUSC4705 Performance Lab D (12 UOC) (Music Creative Practice major only) OR Music Electives (12 UOC) (All other majors)
Prescribed Music Electives3436 - Music
You must take 12 UOC of the following courses.
You cannot double count your major courses as Prescribed Music Electives. Prescribed Music Electives must be chosen from outside your major courses.
It is recommended that non-Creative Practice major students take MUSC4706 as an elective as it will provide an opportunity to continue with ensemble music as part of their pre-professional training as musicians.
Arts and Social Sciences Prescribed Electives3409 - Arts
You must complete 12 UOC of any course offered by UNSW Arts and Social Sciences. Indigenous Studies courses (ATSIxxxx) cannot be studied as Arts and Social Sciences Prescribed Electives.
Note: If you are enrolled in 4053 Arts/Education (Secondary) and have taken an extended minor (36 UOC), you are deemed to have met this requirement.
