The Master of Professional Accounting program provides an introduction to business with a focus on accounting and enables you to obtain recognition by the professional accounting bodies in Australia: CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and the Institute of Public Accountants. Firms often seek employees who have met professional requirements as it means a range of essential business skills have been acquired.

Program Structure

Students must complete 72 UOC when taken as a standalone program.

Accreditations

Association of Chartered Certified Accountants

The Master of Professional Accounting and Master of Professional Accounting (Extension) programs at UNSW are accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Graduates who complete this program may eligible to apply for exemptions from the Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills exams of the ACCA qualification and proceed with the Strategic Professional exams. With full exemption, completion of the Strategic Professional exams and the Ethics and Professional Skills module, graduates will attain Affiliate status with ACCA. 36 months of relevant working experience will be required to become a full ACCA member. CPA Australia

CPA Australia has accepted specific postgraduate courses for the purpose of its membership qualifications. Students may confirm academic entry requirements for the CPA Program with CPA Australia.

Graduates who complete the Master of Professional Accounting or the Master of Professional Accounting (Extension) may be eligible for associate membership of CPA Australia. Each program include all the core knowledge requirements. Students seeking professional recognition as a CPA may obtain further information on the pathway from:

Award with Excellence

The Award with Excellence is awarded in coursework masters programs, including Masters (Extension) but with the exception of Masters (Extended) such as JD and MD, when a Weighted Average Mean (WAM) of at least 80% has been achieved and at least 50% of the requirements of the award are completed at UNSW. All eligible programs will award 'with Excellence' except in special circumstances where approval of Academic Board has been given for a program to opt out.
