Description


A detailed study of 17th and 18th century baroque music. Includes an historical introduction to the issues of performance practice.


Learning Outcomes


At the end of the course, students would have gained:
  • A familiarity with repertoire, its compositional characteristics and performance requirements
  • An enhanced ability of discussing music purposefully using appropriate terminology
  • An increase in their capacity to perform baroque pieces in a historically informed manner
  • An awareness of problems in defining and evaluating historical periods and their artistic manifestations
  • A good working knowledge of relevant primary and secondary sources and how to locate and evaluate them.
