Specialisation Structure

You must complete 36 UOC.

If you commence at Advanced Level you must complete 36 UOC of the following courses:

  1. Advanced Language Core (12 UOC)
  2. Professional Language Core (12 UOC)
  3. Japanese Professional Studies Elective Courses List 1 (12 UOC)

If you commence at Professional Level you must complete 36 UOC of the following courses:

  1. Professional Language Core (12 UOC)
  2. Japanese Professional Studies Elective Courses List 1 (12 UOC)
  3. Contextual Studies Courses or Professional Language Elective Courses (List 1, List 2) or a mix of both (12 UOC)

You will need to take an online placement evaluation so that we can assess your skills and select an appropriate level of course for you. Information about the evaluation and additional course details can be found at: School of Humanities and Languages - Language Placements

You will not be permitted to enrol in language courses that are too easy for you. If this occurs, you will be requested to change your enrolment.

If you are admitted in their first year of study to ARTS3630 or higher on the grounds of ability and/or previous study, such courses will be counted as Level 1 courses in terms of degree requirements.
