Overview
Ecology is a branch of Science concerned with the interrelationship of organisms and their environment.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Discuss the interactions between organisms and their environments, and the consequences of these interactions in natural populations, communities, and ecosystems.
2.
Evaluate scientific hypotheses describing the evolutionary processes that have led to the modern traits of plants, animals, and other organisms.
3.
Describe the application of ecological principles to the conservation and management of biodiversity, and biological and environmental systems.
4.
Integrate the role and relevance of ecology in society and for contemporary environmental issues.
5.
Apply the methods of scientific inquiry, including the search and retrieval of scientific information, the formulation of scientific hypotheses, the design and conduct of experiments, and the analysis and interpretation of data with respect to ecological enquiries and their applications to conservation.
6.
Use the fundamental tools and knowledge of mathematics and the physical sciences needed for studying and understanding biological, ecological and environmental phenomena.
7.
Explain how changes in the environment can alter species interactions and lead to ecosystem change.
