Learning Outcomes
1.
Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in the use of the methods, tools and ideas from biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, and computing that underpin food engineering.
2.
Solve engineering problems in the processing and development of food and drink products by competent application of technical knowledge in areas including biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, nutrition, analytical chemistry, colloids, complex fluids, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, transport phenomena, process technology, and automation.
3.
Use systems thinking to guide engineering practice, including articulating constraints on product or process design, analysing competitive intellectual property to identify opportunities in markets and technologies, and providing a basis for product scale-up and manufacturing.
4.
Use appropriate resources, including research data, to analyse food product characteristics, create quantifiable product benchmarks, develop sustainable, holistic approaches while dealing with uncertainty and solving complex food engineering problems with actual social and environmental contexts.
5.
Communicate complex multidisciplinary ideas effectively and professionally through a range of media to diverse audiences within and outside of food engineering.
6.
Conduct themselves professionally, ethically, and respectfully, being accountable as an individual, as members of teams, and as a leader of teams, while recognising the social and environmental obligations of food engineers.
