Learning Outcomes

1.
Demonstrate coherent and advanced knowledge of the underlying principles and concepts in philosophy. They will understand the nature of philosophy and philosophical enquiry, and be able to cross traditional subject boundaries so as to examine the limitations and virtues of other disciplines and practices
2.
Demonstrate cognitive skills that review, analyse, consolidate and synthesize knowledge. In particular, they will be able to use and understand properly specialised philosophical terminology and identify textually-based arguments and subject their structure and implications to rigorous assessment
3.
Identify and formulate solutions to complex problems with intellectual independence, including especially the alertness to opportunities for employing historical doctrines to illuminate contemporary debates
4.
Demonstrate a broad understanding of a body of knowledge and theoretical concepts with advanced understanding in a key area in philosophy, as for instance, in epistemology and metaphysics, moral, social and political philosophy, and philosophical traditions, broadly understood
5.
Demonstrate an ability to adapt knowledge and skills in diverse contexts through understanding the development of philosophical ideas in historical contexts and, where relevant, applying them appropriately to contemporary debates
6.
Demonstrate initiative and judgment in scholarship by identifying keyquestions, complexities and problems in a number of philosophical topics
7.
Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for own learning and practice and in collaboration with others within broad parameters
8.
Demonstrate communication skills to present a clear and coherent exposition of arguments supported by methods of justification used in philosophical reasoning
9.
Construct a research project that demonstrates technical skills in research and design, including familiarity with and understanding of relevant literature, methodological self-awareness, rectitude in matters of bibliography and citation as well as independence from existing research literature
10.
Construct a research project that demonstrates critical thinking and judgment in developing new understanding. The project should demonstrate awareness of major issues currently at the frontiers of philosophical debate and research
