A major in Economics consists of 60 UOC (10 courses). Eight (8) of these courses are specified; the other two (2) are elective courses that are chosen from the list below. A major in Economics consists of 60 UOC (10 courses). Eight (8) of these courses are specified; the other two (2) are elective courses that are chosen from the list below. This is regardless of whether you are doing a single major or taking Economics as a second major
A minor consists of 30 UOC (5 courses) containing ECON1101, ECON1102 and 18 UOC at level 2 or 3. The minor does not form part of the nominated major.
Economics/Law students must take 96 UOC (16 courses) in the Business School consisting of the major requirements (10 courses), ECON1401 Economic Perspectives, and five (5) additional elective courses (including at least 2 ECON courses offered by the School of Economics) as per the BEc program.
ACTL3191 and/or ACTL3192 will count towards the Level 3 Economics Prescribed Electives course requirement.

Specialisation Structure

Students must complete 60 UOC.

Core Courses List A36 Units of Credit:

Students must complete 36 UOC of List A core courses.

Please note: Students completing a second major in Mathematics or statistics or in the following combined programs: Economics/Actuarial Studies, Economics/Adv Math (Hons), Economis/Science and Economics/Adv Science (Hons). If you complete the sequence MATH1131/MATH1231 or MATH1141/MATH1241 or MATH1151/MATH1251; the completion of ECON1202 and ECON1203 is not required for the major.

With a few of the Science specialisations only one MATH course is required, in which case students will be required to complete one of either ECON1202 or ECON1203.

Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics (Program 3478) students will be able to substitute ECON2403 (Empirical Methods) for ECON1203.

Introductory Econometrics

Core Courses List B (Economics)12 Units of Credit:

Students must complete 12 UOC of List B core courses.

Note: The course ECON3208 is a core component of both the Economics and Econometrics majors. If a student takes these majors together, the course ECON3208 will be counted only towards the Econometrics major, and an additional elective course from the list of prescribed electives must be completed in the Economics major.

Applied Econometric Methods

Prescribed Electives12 Units of Credit:

Students must complete 12 UOC of Prescribed Electives from any of the following.

Students in B.Economics degrees completing a major in Economics together with a major in Econometrics must complete an additional 6 UOC elective (30 UOC in total). ECON3208 is common to both majors and only counts towards the Econometrics stream.
