Learning Outcomes

Work place skills: Students should be able to conduct themselves in a professional manner in the work environment, communicate effectively in diverse workplace situations and be able to apply discipline knowledge and understanding to real business problems with initiative and self-direction.

Ethical, sustainability and environmental responsibility: Students should be able to identify and assess ethical, environmental and/or sustainability considerations in business decision-making and practice.

Knowledge: Students should be able to apply a highly developed understanding of information systems knowledge and theoretical to business situations in a local and global environment.

Oral Communication: Students should be able to prepare and deliver oral presentations that are clear, focused, well-structured, and delivered in a professional manner

Written Communication: Students should be able to prepare written documents (including research) that are clear and concise, using appropriate style and presentation for the intended audience, purpose and context.

Critical thinking and problem solving: Students should be able to identify and research issues in business situations, analyse the issues, and propose appropriate and well-justified solutions.

Teamwork: Students should be able to participate collaboratively and responsibly in teams, and to reflect on their own teamwork, and on the team's processes and ability to achieve outcomes.

Social and cultural understanding: Students should be able to identify social and cultural implications of business situations.
9.
Research Capability: Students should be able to plan and execute a piece of research in the field of information systems with some independence.

Program Structure

Students must complete 192 UOC when taken as a standalone program.

This is made up of:

  1. IFY Business Core Courses (30 UOC)
  2. Information Systems Core Courses (60 UOC)
  3. Prescribed Information Systems Electives (6 UOC)
  4. Industry Placements - Work Integrated Learning Components (36 UOC)
  5. Honours Year Core Courses (36 UOC)
  6. Honours Year Prescribed Electives (12 UOC)
  7. General Education (12 UOC)

Program Requirements

Compulsory Training Component

This four Stage program teaches Information Systems Theory and Practice and provides industrial training linked to that teaching. The three industry placements in the course are each of approximately six months duration, running from January of Stages 2 and 3, and July of Stage 3 of the program.

Progression Requirements

Students must maintain a WAM of at least 65 to remain in the UNSW IS Co-op program.
To progress to year 4 (honours) students must have a minimum WAM of 70 within their IS courses.
