The Bachelor of Media (Screen and Sound Production) is designed to provide students with foundational and applied skills, knowledge and capabilities relevant to career pathways in a broad range of audio-visual, digital and screen production industries. The emphasis is on the acquisition of relevant creative and professional skills relevant to current media industry contexts, along with a sophisticated conceptual understanding of the increasingly convergent role of media and film in contemporary societies.

The Dual award degree Bachelor of Music Bachelor of Media (Screen and Sound Production) [BMus BMedia(S&SP)] is a five-year program (full-time) that offers intensive pre-professional training in one of four streams: Music Creative Practice, Musicology, Sonic Arts and Music Pedagogy. All streams are supported by a variety of large and small, western and non-western music ensembles as well as extensive opportunities for developing musicianship skills.

The Bachelor of Media (Screen and Sound Production) is designed to provide students with foundational and applied skills, knowledge and capabilities relevant to career pathways in a broad range of audio-visual, digital and screen production industries. The emphasis is on the acquisition of relevant creative and professional skills relevant to current media industry contexts, along with a sophisticated conceptual understanding of the increasingly convergent role of media and film in contemporary societies.

1. Media Studies core and prescribed electives (24 UOC)

3. Screen and Sound Production core and prescribed electives (48 UOC)

Bachelor of Music (144 UOC)
1. Musicology Core (42 UOC)
2. Musicianship Core (24 UOC)
3. Performance Laboratory Core (48 UOC for MCP major and 36 UOC for non-MCP majors)
4. Major Gateway Course (6 UOC - 1 course)
5. Major Courses (12 UOC - 2 courses)
6. Prescribed Music Electives (12 UOC for MCP major and 24 UOC for non-MCP majors)

Specialisation Requirements

Level 1 Core Courses36 Units of Credit:

You must complete 36 UOC of Level 1 core courses.
Note: Performance lab course MUSC1707 (12 UOC) is taught as a multi-term course at 4 uoc each term.
- If you are admitted into the advanced entry scheme, you will receive a block credit of up to 36 uoc in Level 1 music courses.

Level 2 Core Courses30 Units of Credit:

You must take 12 UOC of the following courses.
*MUSC3706 Performance Lab C (12 UOC) (Music Creative Practice and Music Pedagogy majors only).
Performance lab courses MUSC3705 (12 UOC) & MUSC3706 are taught as a multi-term courses at 4 uoc each term.

Prescribed Music Electives12 Units of Credit:

You must take 12 UOC of the following courses.

You cannot double count your major courses as Prescribed Music Electives. Prescribed Music Electives must be chosen from outside your major courses.

It is recommended that non-Creative Practice major students take MUSC4706 as an elective as it will provide an opportunity to continue with ensemble music as part of their pre-professional training as musicians.

Bachelor Media (Screen & Sound Production) - Film Studies Minor
Completion of 24 uoc in Film Studies courses will automatically confer a minor in Film Studies at the time of graduation.
