Home Majors and Minors
3409 - Arts

You are required to complete one Home Major and one Minor.

Note: The BA Music Studies majors/minors (MUSCJ1, MUSCJ2, MUSCK1) are not available in programs 3452 Music/Arts and 3474 Music (Honours)/Arts.

The following Majors are NOT available in 4053 Arts/Education (Secondary): Development Studies, Criminology, Linguistics, Music Studies, Politics, Politics and International Relations, Asian Studies, Creative Writing, Environmental Humanities, European Studies, Film Studies, International Relations, Media, Culture and Technology, Philosophy.

The following 24 UOC Minors are NOT available in 4053 Arts/Education (Secondary): Arts and Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies, Chinese Studies, Advanced Chinese Studies, Development Studies, Criminology, English, French Studies, Advanced French Studies, German Studies, Modern Greek Studies, History, Indonesian Studies, Italian Studies, Japanese Studies, Advanced Japanese Studies, Korean Studies, Advanced Korean Studies, Linguistics, Music Studies, Politics (pre-2018 only), Politics and International Relations, Sociology and Anthropology, Spanish and Latin American Studies, Theatre and Performance Studies.

Optional External Majors and Minors
3409 - Arts

You will need to take extra UOC over 96 UOC to meet the requirements of an external minor that is greater than 24 UOC.

External majors are not available in double degree programs. The only exception is the Geographical Studies major (GEOGK1) in 4053 Arts/Education (Secondary). If you are enrolled in this program and wish to complete Geography as your first teaching specialisation, you can declare a major in Geographical Studies (GEOGK1).

Note: The external minors are not available in 4053 Arts/Education (Secondary).

Arts and Social Sciences Prescribed Electives
3409 - Arts

You must complete 6 UOC of any course offered by UNSW Arts and Social Sciences. Indigenous Studies courses (ATSIxxxx) cannot be studied as Arts and Social Sciences Prescribed Electives.

Note: If you are enrolled in 4053 Arts/Education (Secondary) and have taken an extended minor (36 UOC), you are deemed to have met this requirement.

General Education
3409 - Arts

You must complete 6 UOC of any course offered outside UNSW Arts and Social Sciences. This requirement is met if you complete an external minor.

Note: If you are enrolled in 4053 Arts/Education (Secondary) you do not need to complete General Education.

Indigenous Studies courses (ATSIxxxx) can be studied as General Education only if you are not following a major or minor in Indigenous Studies within the BA program.

General Education Requirement

Academic Writing & Language Enhancement

ARTS2050 Academic Writing for the Humanities (6 UOC) and HUMS1005 Personalised English Language Enhancement (6 UOC) can be counted as UNSW Arts and Social Sciences Prescribed Electives or Free Electives.

Double Majors
3409 - Arts

Double majors are not available in Dual mode.

Maturity Requirements
3409 - Arts

You must have completed 24 UOC before taking any Level 2 courses.You must have completed 48 UOC, including 6 UOC at Level 1 and 6 UOC at Level 2 in your major/minor before taking any Level 3 courses.

Specialisation Declaration
3409 - Arts

You must specify your major and minor at the time of enrolment in Level 2 courses.
