Basic research skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders is important for embarking on and maintaining a successful career in the aviation industry. This course coaches students through a basic research and report writing process in the context of aviation. The course introduces the overall research process, and then delves into understanding how to review literature, formulate a research question, develop a research design, collect, process, analyse and display data; conduct research ethically, and write and publish a research report. Each student undertakes a structured, supervised research project on an aviation safety issue, with specific reference to human, organisational and technical factors.
