Critical Infrastructure operations increasingly depend on the fourth revolution of Industry (Industry 4.0), including the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and automated Industrial Control Systems (ICS). These systems comprise human-machine interfaces (HMI), programmable logic controllers (PLC), remote telemetry units (RTU), and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems to offer smart critical infrastructure environments such as smart factories, smart healthcare, and smart grids. However, these systems suffer from various vulnerabilities and cyber attacks that attempt to compromise their critical infrastructure and achieve various attack motives.

This course covers the underpinnings of theories and practicals of critical infrastructure and their security controls. Students will learn the fundamentals of Industry 4.0 environments. The student then practices the vulnerabilities and threats against these environments. Finally, students learn the security controls and protection methods, including standards, policies and frameworks to protect critical infrastructure systems.
