Since 1948 the UN has authorised more than seventy peacekeeping missions, with tens of thousands of peacekeepers currently deployed around the globe. Many complex factors determine if a peacekeeping mission will be deployed, and if it will successfully be able to fulfil its mandate. This course considers the history of peacekeeping operations and how they have evolved over time. It examines current operations, including mandates, budgets and operational context.  Finally it will consider the future of peacekeeping in the current geopolitical environment.
