Australian history is a multi-layered and messy story of champions and underdogs, visionaries and conspirators, battlers and bogans. This course examines the rich history of the continent from ancient times to the present day. It aims to build on the traditional moments in Australian history to provide students with a deeper understanding of the social, cultural, environmental, political and economic forces that have shaped Australia’s past. The course will explore a range of topics and themes including indigenous perspectives, convicts and colonial politics, gold and growth, immigration and social change as well as Australia’s place in the world. Students will have the opportunity to do ‘hands on’ history through a variety of digital tools and historical sources, giving them greater insight into the nation’s past and how it is made.
