Handbook

In this course you will be introduced to the history of city planning, urban history, cultural heritage, and the built environment. You will explore the history and development of urban planning practice with an emphasis on the broader patterns and influences that shaped the NSW and Australian experience throughout the 18th - 20th centuries. The topics covered will allow you to develop a critical perspective on the historical evolution of how Australia’s cities have developed, to allow you to make meaningful comparisons with the experiences of other global cities and places. The course will also provide you with an introduction to the key issues in planning history, heritage and the built environment that are part of planning and urban history, particularly through the institutions and practices of heritage conservation in NSW.
