As a pre-service teacher, this course provides you with opportunity to consider and engage with current issues in mathematics teaching. You will consider from a research perspective such things as: the evidence for and against particular pedagogical approaches to mathematics teaching that are recommended across a range of Australian educational jurisdictions; the role of technology, including AI, in teaching and learning mathematics; and the role of data, including data generated from standardised tests such as NAPLAN, school based tests, and teachers’ informal records, in informing mathematics teaching. In this course, you will gain experience in evaluating the quality of research evidence, arriving at justifiable positions on controversial issues, and articulating the research evidence for mathematics teaching practices that you intend to implement in your classroom.
