For this project you will prepare and submit a proposal for a competition or award, which locates a ceramic work within the built environment.

Competitions represent an important opportunity for emerging artists and designers to build a reputation in a professional context by presenting their ideas in a professional environment. The competition brief is a platform for you to think in interdisciplinary terms and challenge existing conceptual frameworks for Ceramics, and a forum for you to communicate ideas to a professional audience that address industry conventions. Initially you will investigate and analyse opportunities to address a nominated design or art award, then research and assess the significance of 2 visionary concepts within the context of the competition. The two concepts will be then presented as proposals to the class in a 5 minute talk accompanied by A3 storyboards that include a short written statement, a clear visual representation, a fabrication methodology and a schedule for completion. Proposals will vary depending upon the particular brief and your concept, however they should incorporate a conceptual framework, aesthetic considerations, (trans)portability, manufacturability, sustainability, durability, performance and market context. You will select, prepare and submit one of these ideas as a submission which satisfies the competition entry requirements. Your final entry should articulate the proposed idea in a 10 x A4 page document using illustrations, 3D models, renderings, diagrams and images illustrating the finished work in the proposed location. It should also include a statement of intent, dimensioned drawings, material samples and production details. Your project Journal will document your ideas and articulate your engagement with research, studio work, projects and learning activities. You will need to regularly update your journal and submit this for assessment.
