Handbook

This course fits in the design stream for mechanical engineering.  It follows on from ZEIT1501 Engineering Practice and Design and ZEIT2501 Mechanical and Electronic Design. It is followed by ZEIT4700 Mechanical Design 2. It has a prerequisite of ZEIT2501 Mechanical and Electronic Design, but expects students to be familiar and appropriately competent across all aspects of the first 5 semesters of the degree plan. This 6-unit course provides further exposure to design principles, processes and methods, as used in industry, for requirement analysis, concept design, preliminary design and detail design including CAD. Students will acquire familiarity with a range of components and gain competence in sizing and selection of the components to achieve desired functionality. They will also be engaged in an integrative project.

This 6-unit course is divided into three parts: Design (40%), Component Design (35%) and CAD (CATIA) (25%). Lectures, Studio sessions and Labs will be used throughout the session to cover the above aspects.
