Numerical Reservoir Simulation: Introduction and overview: Reservoir simulation and management. Derivation of general reservoir flow equations. Reduction to the black oil model. Discrete flow equations for single-phase flow: finite difference approximation. Discretization of the black oil equations. Truncation errors and stability. Tranmissibilities, upstream weighing, implicit and explicit treatment of transmissibilities. Numerical dispersion and grid-orientation effects. Model and grid selection. Model initialization.
