This course is the Semester 1 prerequisite for course SAHT 4213 Thesis B, which normally runs in Semester 2. The course is a core subject in completion of Honours Program 4516. It entails students undertaking preliminary research and writing which will lead at the conclusion of Semester 2 to the completion of an Honours research thesis in art history and theory of 15,000–18,000 words on an approved topic. Assigned supervisors guide students in their research and writing during the course of Semester 1 through regular meetings and correspondence. Students also receive feedback and advice on their thesis research from the Course Convener via one on one meetings or email correspondence.
