Military History of the British Empire, 1756-1967

This course examines the military history of the British Empire from its rise during the Seven Years' War (1756-1763) to its demise in the decolonisation of the 1960s. The course places military campaigns that ranged from India and Ireland to China and New Zealand into the broader social, cultural, political and technological context. The course also examines the changing historiography of the British Empire, particularly the recent disclosure that the UK Government hid documents relating to torture and other crimes committing by colonial administrations.
