Subject Area: Film Studies

This course introduces students to the study of cinema in a transnational and cross-cultural context. It includes approaches to subcultural cinemas in the West, minority cultures in non-Western societies, the development of narrative and aesthetic conventions beyond "classic" Western styles and genres, the significance of cinema as an art-form, and as a creative element in local, national and transnational history and politics.
