This course introduces students to the variety of research methods used in legal and criminological, with a focus on the methods that are most relevant to higher degree research (HDR) candidates. HDR students will delve into qualitative, quantitative, and doctrinal methods, facilitating informed decision-making in choosing methods appropriate to their research projects. An emphasis is placed on understanding the relationship between research methods and broader questions of research design and project theorisation. Practical challenges associated with data gathering and interpretation are explored, alongside ethical considerations inherent to various research methodologies. Additionally, candidates will engage with norms of quality and rigor, critical for producing impactful research. By fostering critical evaluation skills, this course empowers HDR candidates to navigate diverse research landscapes effectively.

Prerequisite: Completion of LAWS0007, and enrolled in a Higher Degree Research degree in the Faculty of Law & Justice.
