Learning Outcomes

1.
Articulate linguistic theories and core analytical approaches relevant to the study of living languages.
2.
Describe the place of language and linguistic theory in the interdisciplinary study of communication, cognition, society and/or culture.
3.
Undertake rigorous and engaged scholarly enquiry and analysis of language in order to justify a position in relation to foundational aspects of society and culture.
4.
Collaborate effectively with others and demonstrate intercultural reflexivity.
5.
Communicate and debate complex ideas about the scientific study of language in a range of different contexts using a variety of suitable media.
6.
Exhibit initiative and self-direction to continuously acquire knowledge of linguistics and skills in linguistic methodologies and reflect on existing knowledge and skills for personal and career fulfilment.
7.
Critically and creatively employ disciplinary bodies of knowledge about the study of linguistics and appraise disciplinary perspectives in professional practice and/or scholarship.
8.
Act ethically, respectfully and responsibly.
9.
Articulate a broad and coherent body of knowledge about linguistic diversity, language endangerment, and language revitalization with particular reference to Australian First Nations languages and their speakers.
