The Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing specialisation is designed for students who wish to specialise in Aboriginal health and Wellbeing, which is reflected in their Testamur.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Advanced capacity to describe in oral and written form, as well as to advocate and implement research-informed, culturally appropriate and intersectoral approaches to addressing inequalities in health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
2.
A deep understanding and capacity to sensitively discuss the historical and current impact of colonisation, the socio-cultural strength and risk determinants and epidemiological perspectives of health, wellbeing and illness in Indigenous Australians;
3.
Skills and experience to draw upon a breadth of disciplinary approaches spanning biomedical, public health, health services management, empowerment and community development when communicating and developing strategies to improve health related outcomes;
4.
The ability to discuss and apply strengths-based and participatory ways to:|||engender change and wellbeing at the psychosocial, organisational and structural levels towards enhancing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families and communities and|||simultaneously enhance satisfaction, wellbeing and retention of the service providers;
