Overview

The flexible two-year Master of Applied Economics has been developed to prepare professional economists. Prior learning and/or work experience may be recognised to reduce duration of the program to one year. Flexibility in program delivery and learning style is catered for in this program, with multimodal or online study options being available in many core and elective courses. In addition, within the Practicum Elective Course, COMM5022 Industry Experience Program will have workshops offered online and students permitted to arrange an online or local internship. Other courses in the Practicum Elective Course list will be offered in-person. The Australian Government requires that International Student Visa holders study onshore, undertake a full-time study load, enrol in at least one in-person course per term, and do not study more than one-third of their program online. International Student Visa holders cannot study fully online.

Program Structure

Students must complete 96 UOC when taken as a standalone program.

1. Core Courses (30 UOC)
2. Prescribed Electives (54 UOC)
3. Economics Practicum (12 UOC)

As part of the program students are required to complete 12 UOC of Practicum. If you wish to enrol in a practicum course listed on the Business School Career Accelerator website and it is not listed in the above list, please submit a course substitution request via UNSW Student webforms for your request to be assessed.

The Award with Excellence is awarded in coursework masters programs, including Masters (Extension) but with the exception of Masters (Extended) such as JD and MD, when a Weighted Average Mean (WAM) of at least 80% has been achieved and at least 50% of the requirements of the award are completed at UNSW. All eligible programs will award 'with Excellence' except in special circumstances where approval of Academic Board has been given for a program to opt out.
