Students who have completed the Graduate Certificate with a minimum WAM of 65 can apply to articulate into the Master of Applied Economics program and will receive 24 UOC of credit transfer.

This program is offered in a blended on-campus/online mode. Students are required to complete 4 courses (24 UOC) comprised of 2 core courses and 2 elective course. All courses are 6 UOC.

Students who have completed the Graduate Certificate with a minimum WAM of 65 can apply to articulate into the Master of Applied Economics program and will receive 24 UOC of credit transfer.

Enrolment guidance for waiver recipients

Students who receive a waiver for ECON5103 and/or COMM5005, are required to take electives (as specified in the Prescribed Electives list) to ensure that the total UOC for the program has been completed. However, please be advised that all electives have prerequisite requirements. Students are advised to first complete all core courses. In addition, many PG Economics courses require ECON5101, ECON5102 or ECON5205 as prerequisites. As such, students are advised to contact the Program Authority for further advice on enrolment and program requirements. For students considering a progression into Master of Applied Economics (MAppEc), please note that ECON5101, ECON5102 and ECON5205 are core courses for MAppEc.

Below are recommended enrolment pathways for students who receive waiver(s):
1. Waiver for ECON5103: Take COMM5005, ECON5101, 5102 and 5205.
2. Waiver for COMM5005: Take ECON5103, ECON5101, 5102 and 5205.
3. Waiver for both ECON5103 and COMM5005: Take ECON5101, 5102 and 5205 plus one elective offered by the School of Economics except ECON5258.

Minimum Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirement is:

a bachelor degree from an Australian university or equivalent overseas institution; and

satisfying the UNSW Business School English Language requirement of IELTS 7.0 overall (min 6.0 in each subtest) or equivalent test.

NOTE: Assumed knowledge - A level of knowledge equivalent to a first-year undergraduate mathematics subject is assumed. Students without such knowledge are advised to contact the Postgraduate Coursework Director in Economics, complete an appropriate self-assessment of university mathematics knowledge before the commencement of their first term and complete a Maths bridging course where appropriate.

Progression Requirements

Students completing the Graduate Certificate in Economics (7412) with a minimum WAM of 65 can articulate to the 96 UOC Master of Applied Economics (8429) with 24 UOC of course credit applied to program (reducing program length to 72 UOC).
