Overview

The Graduate Diploma in Data Science aims to produce professionals who are skilled in the manipulation and interpretation of large amounts of data. It covers the foundational skills of data science as applied in computer science, economics and mathematics. It also includes programming, statistics and data systems. Completing these courses will give you a strong foundation and advanced knowledge in data science that are increasingly in high demand. This program is delivered fully online can be completed in 16 months. This program also gives you a pathway to study the Master of Data Science.

Program Structure

Students must complete 48 UOC when taken as a standalone program.

Non-domain Elective: With the permission of the Program Authority, students may substitute up to 6 UOC electives with another UNSW Online course offered by any Faculty (studyonline.unsw.edu.au).

Minimum Entry Requirements

In order to gain entry to this program, applicants must have:

Have completed the Graduate Certificate in Data Science with a WAM of 65 or higher.

OR

Have completed an undergraduate degree in Data Science or cognate discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics) and have sufficient Data Science background as indicated by an average of 65 or above across a minimum of three Level III courses in Mathematics and/or Statistics and/or Computer Science and/or Econometrics

OR

Completed a degree in a non-cognate discipline AND have sufficient Data Science background as indicated by at least five years of experience in a data science or data analytics role.

Limitations on Recognition of Prior Learning

Core Courses

Can be granted from undergraduate or postgraduate study
Maximum of 4 core courses (24 UoC) can be granted in total for the program (core plus electives).

Prescribed Electives

Can only be granted based on postgraduate study
Maximum of 2 elective courses (12 UoC) can be granted, where total RPL does not exceed 50% of program
