Overview

The Master of Pharmacy is a 3-year full time Extended Master program, preparing you for future practice as a pharmacist. The study of pharmacy integrates the study of clinical therapeutics and practice with the pharmaceutical sciences, including pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacogenomics, pharmaceutics and medicinal chemistry. The program is future focused, so as well as developing advanced practice skills in a range of current areas of practice, such as home medicine reviews, you will explore  future areas of practice, such as pharmacist prescribing. The overall design of the UNSW pharmacy program enables you to sample the range of opportunities that the pharmacy profession has to offer, and you will have the opportunity to choose the path that best suits your career goals. On completion of the UNSW BPharmMed/MPharm, you will be eligible to apply for provisional registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia.   This program is only available as part of the integrated Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Medicine/ Master of Pharmacy double-degree (3895) and is not offered as a separate standalone program for direct entry.

Internship, Placement and Exchange Opportunities

Internship, Placement and Exchange Opportunities

Students can choose to undertake 12-18 uoc of International Experience (exchange or placement) in Year 5 of the program.

Compulsory Training Component

You will complete over 300 hours of placement throughout the program. 

Placement sites will be allocated by UNSW and may include metropolitan, regional and rural areas.

Progression Requirements

Students who do not meet progression requirements will be expected to meet with the Program Authority to develop an individual exit plan. Students who have met the requirements for the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Medicine (3892) may transfer to this program to exit.

Students are permitted to attempt the same course a maximum of three times. A student who fails the same course for the third time will not be permitted to re-enrol.

Professional Recognition

This program meets the requirements for provisional registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia. Completion of this program prepares students for provisional registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia. Students will need to complete 1824 hours of supervised practice, an Australian Pharmacy Council accredited intern training program and the written and oral exams prescribed by the Pharmacy Board to be eligible to apply for general registration.

Additional Information

This program is offered as a 5-year Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Medicine/ Master of Pharmacy double-degree. A qualification will be awarded on completion of the 5-year program.
