Overview

The one-year Master of Education degree is designed for qualified teachers and other educational professionals who wish to study education at an advanced level. Commonwealth Supported Places (previously HECS) are available for local candidates. The program offers specialisations in Educational Studies, Curriculum and Assessment, Educational Psychology, Gifted Education, Special Education and TESOL. Note: This program does not offer professional accreditation to teach in primary or secondary schools in NSW or Australia. For pre-service teacher education programs, please see Bachelor of Education (Secondary), Master of Teaching (Primary), and Master of Teaching (Secondary). Applicants who hold an existing teaching qualification and complete the Special and Inclusive Education specialisation may be recognised by the NSW Department of Education as a special education teacher. Applicants who hold an existing teaching qualification in NSW or other Australian jurisdictions and complete the TESOL specialisation may be recognised by NESA as an accredited English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) teacher.

The Award with Excellence is awarded in coursework masters programs, including Masters (Extension) but with the exception of Masters (Extended) such as JD and MD, when a Weighted Average Mean (WAM) of at least 80% has been achieved and at least 50% of the requirements of the award are completed at UNSW. All eligible programs will award 'with Excellence' except in special circumstances where approval of Academic Board has been given for a program to opt out.

If you are selecting the TESOL specialisation and intend to take EDST5325 TESOL Advanced Professional Practice, please note this is a practicum class and can only be completed face to face.
