The Graduate Certificate in Health Management provides students with the theoretical and technical capacities for current and future health leadership roles in health service management in Australia or internationally. The Graduate Certificate provides understanding in a range of health management domains. Graduates develop high level skills for professional practice in a range of health service settings: hospital and community healthcare services, aged care services, Ministries and Departments of Health, Government and Non-Government and voluntary organisations, primary care and general practice, in both public and private sectors. Graduates are equipped to contribute knowledge and techniques with well-developed judgement for improving health service outcomes in specific and diverse health management contexts.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Apply disciplinary knowledge and skills to critically analyse health care systems and policy contexts to inform health management strategies underpinned by recent scholarship in health organisations and leadership;
2.
Appraise health service needs and apply evidence informed strategies for enhancing health service outcomes using relevant contemporary disciplinary theories, techniques and scholarship;
3.
Demonstrate capacity to initiate, plan, implement and/or evaluate health management projects and/or programs in a range of practice contexts informed by current theoretical debates, techniques and evidence based practices;
4.
Demonstrate high level skills in communicating, working in teams and advocacy to enhance health service outcomes;
5.
Demonstrate well developed cultural awareness and a global perspective for working productively as health service professionals in local, national and international settings;
6.
Demonstrate ability to engage in scholarly inquiry, ethical commitment and critical reflective practice for informing professional practice in health service management.

Program Structure
24 Units of Credit:

Students must complete 24 UOC as a standalone program.

1. Compulsory courses - 12 UOC
2. Prescribed elective courses - 12 UOC

Academic Practice: International Students

International students from non-English speaking countries enrolled in the full time program in Sydney (Kensington campus) are required to take the following additional preparatory course in their first semester. This course is available for all students to assist to gain maximum benefit from their study. The course is made available at no charge to students and does not contribute to the UOC requirements of the degree.

Prescribed Electives

Students must take at least 6 UOC, up to a maximum of 12 UOC of the following courses.
