The course explores the wide range of forensic mental health systems that exist, and the institutions that receive input from forensic mental health services. Topics covered during the course include the functioning and roles of: the State Parole Authority (NSW); the Serious Offenders Review Council (NSW); Mental Health Review Tribunal; the Health Care Complaints Commission; Australian and NZ Royal College of Psychiatrists; and the Medical Board. Also covered are: Corrections and the Prison Medical Service; Forensic Mental Health Hospitals and secure facilities; and the forensic aspects of psychiatry in the armed forces.
