Handbook

While information has long been a prized weapon, contemporary influence operations play out in complex information environments and include a wide variety of forms, from the strategic use of international law to the weaponisation of narrative. This course equips students with an interdisciplinary toolkit to understand the multiple dimensions of such information-based military and non-military activities. Concepts and case studies are drawn from the disciplines of International & Political Studies, English & Media Studies, Ethics, History and International Law. Proposed modules in this interdisciplinary course will range across foundational questions of representation, strategic communication and propaganda, the ethics of manipulation, strategies of lawfare and cyber campaigns.
