This course explores the interrelationship of ecological and sociocultural problems and resolutions by examining the intersections of places and identities with broader meaning systems and ways of behaving. Course content focuses on ecocultural spaces and identities as material and symbolic constructions that are profoundly environmentally consequential. You will bring course concepts and lenses to everyday and extraordinary places and situations in order to question and understand the sociocultural underpinnings of, and responses to, ecological relations. In engaging these often taken-for-granted or unconsidered identity and spatial contexts, you will gain tools to tend to environmental change-making in powerfully nuanced and considered ways.
