Handbook

This course examines concepts and theories that enhance understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion and the development of individual, team and organisational knowledge and skills. The unit highlights structural, organisational and individual factors which can impede successful diversity management, and provides students with a range of tools to ensure they can progress effective diversity management in their organisation. Topics will include: theories of difference, equality, diversity and inclusion; the business case for diversity management; the legal frameworks to prevent discrimination; bullying, violence and psycho-social safety at work; barriers experienced by various diversity target groups (including women, First Nation peoples, those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, older workers and LGBTQI+ workers); the construction of merit and operation of biases; organisational change; and inclusive leadership. The aim is to enable students to understand the complexities of diversity management so that they can create and maintain an inclusive and diverse workplace, and develop, implement and evaluate successful diversity management policies.
