Handbook

This course will introduce you to urban design concepts and methodologies in the context of current planning practice. Starting with an appreciation of the fundamentals of design, we will explore topics such as site investigations, the definition of urban structure, enhancing the public realm, understanding building typologies, and controlling built form. You will develop an awareness of the scope of urban design projects, an appreciation for the physical structure of places, an understanding of shaping built form, familiarity with different building typologies, and insights into current urban design debates. You will also acquire essential skills such as site analysis methodology, establishing robust planning and design principles, mapping and spatial understanding, design review criteria and mechanisms of development control.
