The Independent Studies elective is an option for students to propose a 6UoC unit of in-depth study of a relevant public health, global health, health management or infectious diseases intelligence issue or topic that addresses specific learning outcomes not otherwise covered in core or elective courses taught by the School. Public health and health management are broad disciplines and this elective is offered to meet the diverse learning needs of our students. The overall learning experience for students is independent study with individual supervision by an academic supervisor. Independent Studies are student-led proposals with learning outcomes, proposed study plans and assessments negotiated with academic supervisors. Students must provide a rationale for why they wish to undertake the 6UoC Independent Studies elective. Students must also identify how the learning outcomes for the Independent Studies will contribute to the broader learning outcomes of their program. Candidates are expected to demonstrate their ability to apply knowledge and skills gained in their program during their Independent Studies. All proposals to undertake research should be submitted via the 6/12/18UoC Research Project elective options, not the Independent Studies elective.
