Being at the intersection of two of the most beautiful and important areas of mathematics, Algebra and Number Theory, this course will build on your abstract algebra background to address number theoretic problems regarding integers or rational numbers, and their generalisation to algebraic numbers. These concepts will be explored through a series of lectures, along with weekly tutorial exercises, and towards the end of the course, we will also discuss some relevant research topics.

Conditions for Enrolment

Enrolment in program 5659 or 8161 or 8719 or 8750 or 7659

Prerequisites: MATH2501 or MATH2601 and MATH3711 with an average mark of at least 70

Additional Enrolment Constraints

Equivalent courses from other institutions will be considered on application to the School.
