Hybrid Crafting: New Technologies, Traditional Techniques introduces art and design practice at the intersection of analogue and digital design and fabrication methods. This course takes a gradual approach, guiding students through an introduction to digital design and fabrication processes available at the Art & Design Makerspaces, including 3D modelling, 3D scanning, 3D printing, and laser cutting as well as analogue making processes available in the UNSW Art & Design Workshops, including making with ceramics, wood, metal, textiles and plastics. Students will move from analogue to digital modes of design and fabrication exploring the potential for innovative form generation and fabrication methods at the intersection of these two paradigms of art and design production.
