This course will first convey in-depth knowledge of all aspects of the payments and transfer industry, one of the fastest-growing segments at the forefront of the FinTech revolution. We will start with the existing payment infrastructure, discuss simple innovations at the point-of-sale, more complex payment eco-systems, international transfer solutions as well as the prospects of central bank digital currencies.

Second, we will use multiple frameworks to systematically analyse incumbent solutions and new entrants under strategic and marketing, economic and financial, ethical and regulatory considerations. Case studies and guided research into contemporaneous industry participants as well as expert interviews provide additional practice and insights. Regularly, students will be invited to bring their personal and professional experience into the course in discussions and other student-led activities.

In the end, this should enable students to independently analyse the market that is most interesting to them or most related to their work, recognise pain points in existing solutions, identify gaps and opportunities and systematically assess them using what they have learned in the course.
