This is a core course that forms part of the Graduate Diploma in Psychology (Advanced) program. The course covers the history and systems of psychology and the ethical issues for psychologists. The history and systems section of the course provides an historical overview to some of the enduring conceptual issues in psychology. It aims is to clarify contemporary treatments of these issues by considering their past. The ethics section of the course deals with the principles of ethical conduct by psychologists and places emphasis on ethical issues in professional practice. It provides students with an understanding and familiarity with the regulatory and legislative framework pertaining to the practice of professional psychology. The course will cover ethical issues in psychological research, including animal research. Students will gain advanced knowledge in psychology via a combination of online instructional videos and activities and small-group seminars. This course is taught entirely online.
