This course will explore the interface of psychiatry and the law in terms of the current literature, as well as from legal and clinical perspectives of how these disciplines interact in courtroom settings. This course will provide an understanding of introductory and conceptual issues; criminal responsibility; punishment; criminology; complete and partial defences; insanity; automatism; preventative detention; fitness to stand trial; personality disorders in forensic mental health; and sentencing.
