Architecture and Politics provides an introduction to the philosophies that have generated architectural designs from the early 20th century onwards. You will examine such philosophies in the context of the wider social, political and economic concerns that marked the 20th Century, and the start of the 21st Century. You will learn about the main trends of thought of the period, which include evolutionism, Marxism, existentialism, structuralism and environmentalist and will learn how to categorise architectural works from the period according to the philosophy or ideas they embody, and to critically assess the strengths and limitations of those ideas.
