Overview

This course deals with funding and lending in the modern age of rapid technological change. It explores the business models and financial mechanisms behind innovative funding arrangements and discusses their disruptive potential as well as relevant risks. The course allows students to view the issues from three different perspectives: users of capital (borrowers), providers of capital (investors), and market designers (regulators or platform owners). Learning is reinforced by relevant assessments, such as testing one’s investment performance in a crowdfunding market (without putting actual capital at risk). It is further supported by cutting-edge research, which highlights opportunities and application challenges in a constantly evolving crowdfunding space.
