Handbook

This course covers the basics of Finance including the time value of money, risk aversion, nominal and real amounts, arbitrage, simple and compounded interest, annuities, valuing shares and debt, and net present value. The course is highly applied, using everyday examples and relying on continuous problem solving to ensure progress and assessment. Specific objectives include: covering fundamental concepts used to make financial decisions; covering key methods used in the valuation of assets; providing knowledge to better understand financial topics and decisions as reported in the media and public policy; preparing students to take more advanced courses in finance such as ZBUS8105 Finance and Investment Appraisal.

Examples of topics covered include cash flows, rates of return, and discount rates for valuing projects and assets as well as an overview of Australia's capital markets.
